Not long after Manchester United toppled Chelsea at Old Trafford, Blues legend John Terry announced he would be leaving his beloved boyhood charges this summer.
While this may not be the end of Terry’s illustrious playing career, his departure from Stamford Bridge sees the final member of Jose Mourinho’s old guard in SW6 call time on life at the club.
Like him or loathe him, his leaving was likely to provoke reaction from fans all over the Premier League, considering the magnitude of his importance to England’s top division over the years.
Interestingly enough, the reaction of the United fans on Twitter has largely centred around former England teammate Wayne Rooney. Like Terry, the latter is one of the last members of the Three Lions’ ill-fated ‘Golden Generation’ playing today, though his career with the Red Devils looks to be over.
With Terry having set a precedent, United fans online have taken to Twitter to urge Rooney to do the very same.
