Former Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea is set to extend his stay at Fiorentina with a new three-year contract after an excellent first season in Serie A, according to . The 34-year-old helped La Viola finish sixth in the Italian top flight, ensuring they qualified for the Conference League play-off round. They played in the same competition during the past season, but were eliminated in the semi-finals by Real Betis.

The contract extension represents a major change in fortunes for De Gea. The former Spain international began to make mistakes at a worrying rate during his final few seasons with United and spent the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign as a free agent after he was released by the Red Devils.
