During Spurs' win over City, Van de Ven enhanced an already burgeoning reputation with another vital block. Having previously become a Spurs hero for a goal-line clearance during the Europa League final win over Manchester United, Van de Ven slid in to deny Jeremy Doku as he took aim at goal in the 81st minute.

Van de Ven only managed to make 12 appearances in the Premier League last season, as he battled hamstring injuries throughout the campaign. With him in the side, however, Spurs have yet to concede a goal in their first two games of the domestic season.
WHAT THOMAS FRANK SAID
Frank told Spurs' website: "I think a couple of things… in the second half we kept going for 3-0, it’s not like we didn’t want to do that, or we wanted to just see the game out.
"Then the team effort – there is one moment in the game that is defining, I hope it’s defining for a good season, although it’s early, early days. It's in the second half, a transition, 10 players, head down, sprinting back and then ending with Micky’s block. Wow. That gave me goosebumps, because we all want the goal in the top corner, the beautiful play – that, we want as well – but that bit, sprinting back, that will win you a lot of football matches."
